The Douglas Lofts Gets New Trees for their Containers!

The Douglas Lofts at 3rd and Spring had new container trees installed yesterday!  They look great!  The board chose Laurus Nobilis ( Bay Laural, Sweet Bay), the same Bay Leaf one uses in seasoning soups, etc!

Come by and take a look and let me know what you think of the new trees.

If you would like to see more street trees in downtown LA, contact Tree People to let them know and encourage them to  support and lobby more for more trees downtown!

A Community Garden in Downtown LA?

I read this article a while back in the Home section of the LATimes about the Fountain Community Gardens.  It got me to thinking that a community garden would be a perfect thing for us loft dwellers downtown.  A community garden could take over one or two or three of the many surface parking lots we have.  Wouldn't you love to grow your very own tasty tomatoes for salads, or grow beautiful flowers that you could show off in your loft?  It would be the best of both worlds - urban living and gardening!

I don't know how to turn the idea into reality, but if any of you have ideas, share them here, or contact me directly to recommend someone I should talk to.

Douglas Lofts get Mills Act status!

The Douglas Lofts recently received Mills Act status.  This will save loft owners between 40 and 60% on their annual property taxes!  To lean more about the Mills Act, click on the link above.

33 Variations with Jane Fonda at the Ahmanson

I saw last Friday's show and enjoyed it very much.  I thought the play was much better than the critic did who's review I read in the LA Times.

The experience of going to the theatre was great too.  My husband and I met at Pinot Grill for dinner first; he walked from his office at 7th and Fig, and I walked up the hill from our loft in The Douglas at 3rd and Spring.

For me, this is one of the greatest things about living downtown.  I absolutely love that we can walk to dinner, a play and then for a drink afterwards (we didn't go for an after show drink Friday because we were pooped, but we could have it we had wanted!).

Tonight's Art Walk.  We've decided that we're in a mood to explore another neighborhood a little, so we're going to dinner in Thai Town.  We'll take the Red Line to the Hollywood/Western station and likely go to Thai Patio for dinner.

Bringing Back Broadway

The LA Times ran a good story today about Broadway.  Read the story HERE

I think the revitalization of Broadway is key to the continued transformation of the Historic Core, and downtown as a whole, as a place to live, shop and socialize.  As a resident of the Historic Core, I will do all I can to help with the Bringing Back Broadway organization.  Broadway should be our preeminent street!

I welcome your comments on how you think Broadway can be "brought back"!
